For a bit more than one and a half years, Swiss label Subject to Restrictions has been busy releasing a string of dance EPs by various artists as well as a first compilation, Summer Restrictions Vol. 1. Now, the latter is about to receive its counterpart with Winter Restrictions Vol. 1. Releasing a dance music compilation was a rather contingent affair back in July 2020. After all, the first Restrictions compilation intended to “serve DJs around the world with club and festival tracks for the summer.” The possibility to do that has been denied ever since by the Covid-19 pandemic. In Winter 2021, an uncertain outlook in general and on dancefloors in particular remains. 

Nevertheless, Subject to Restrictions decided to send out some signs of life of club music with Winter Restrictions Vol. 1. A scattershot of artists from Switzerland present eight tracks, all in anticipation of parties and dancers. Amongst the eight artists featured is Georg Munz aka Slow Glass. So far, two EPs of the Zurich-based producer appeared on Light Of Other Days, a label he co-runs with Marc Hofweber. For Winter Restrictions, Munz produced “Arctic Sunrise.” The track starts with rather cold bass stabs before warming up via various percussion elements, vocal samples, and a light melody. 

Munz let us know that producing dance tracks is usually challenging for him, as sticking to a functionality is counterintuitive to his working procedure. The work he did on “Arctic Sunrise”, however, was spontaneous and lighthearted, Munz explained. Maybe this carefree approach relates to our current imaging of and longing for dancefloors: as long as we can experience music dancing with other people, every track would be perfect. “Arctic Sunrise” turned out to be the right soundtrack to experience dancefloors—and we would like to experience that sooner rather than later.
