Sameheads is a special affair. Whenever you would enter this Berlin-based fashion-outlet/bar/radio-station/club/expat-hang-out during the past 11 (?) years you would encounter weird people in weird cloths dancing—in a weird manner obviously—to weird music. But the people behind Sameheads—originally, the three Dukes brothers Nathan, Harry, Leo and their accomplices—proved to be as big-hearted as it gets, keeping their thing as real as it gets. It’s no surprise that this environment would attract a bunch of fine musicians—some who should be familiar to readers of zweikommasieben: Houndstooth-flagship Call Super for example, who has been interviewed for our print magazine. Or Norwegian disco-maverick Telephones, who has been featured in issue #14.
The core team of musicians in and around the venue at Neukölln’s Richardstrasse 10 also includes six acts that now are gathered on the first edition of a newly launched series of compilations published by Sameheads: Retro-rave-experimentalist Novo Line, Balance Crew aka dane//close and L.Zylberberg (who both have released music on zweikommasieben-publisher Präsens Editionen), synth-funk duo Twoonky, Kruton aka Power Vacuum-boss Bintus, Power Station’s Kris Baha, and italo-disco-brutalist Antoni Maovvi. The compilation called Flam! evolves like a night that could go down at Sameheads (or like the complete opposite—you never really know what you get): from chill Balearic experiments with a dash of nervous dub over limp EBM to more techno-y jams.
