«Gain staging» means something like ensuring to feed an appropriate level from the first stage of an audio signal path to the next. At least that’s what I’ve learned from doing some lousy research on Google.

However, Gainstage also stands for Arik Hayut and Pierce Warnecke’s collaborative musical endeavors. A couple of months ago their self-titled album was released through Berlin’s Portals Editions imprint. It’s a distorted, bulky body of work, which can be, indeed, compared to big names like Godflesh or Emptyset.

On October 23 a physical release follows – it’s slightly slimmer that the digital album, but on the other hand, includes two remixes. One of the two remixes – it’s a reinterpretation of the track «Sun Burnt Cloud» – Belgian duo Orphan Swords has been taken care of. Their version starts as the original, but becomes more and more a techno-ganger, until, just before it ends, the noises from the original swallow the drum machine again. Check it out yourself:
