Pre-Listen: Belia Winnewisser’s “Useless”

By the end of this week, SPA will release a new EP by Swiss producer Belia Winnewisser. We already got a hold of “Useless,” the release’s last track, and are premiering it here.

Belia Winnewisser released her debut album Radikale Akzeptanz back in 2018 via Präsens Editionen [full disclosure: also home to zweikommasieben]. Ever since, it seemed, things went rather quite around Winnewisser. However, the Swiss producer kept up with a busy schedule of live gigs as well as more and more often DJ appearances. This schedule only got interrupted recently because of the situation with the Corona-virus. Furthermore, Winnewisser also contributed tracks to various compilations. One of these compilations was safe needing attention, the initialization of the label SPA.

The Cologne-based imprint now present A Comet Blazing In The Empyrean, a new five-track EP by Winnewisser. On this EP. the producer again is able to combine her pop sensitivity with hard-edged sound-design. More and more, however, Winnewisser also presents current styles of club music—the latter might be  related to the fact that DJ gigs are now just as common for Winnewisser as live performances.

We are more than happy to present “Useless,” the EP’s last track ahead of the release. On this track, Winnewisser starts with her soft voice before she adds more and more elements to the mix. She winds things down, however, before an actual climax is reached—a bold move that Winnewisser seems to pull off easily.
