L.Zylberberg’s track “Sheshells” is a fragile affair: on top of a simple and repetitive bass line, the Berlin-based artist and Sameheads mainstay plays delicate melodies and single notes. These higher tones go hand-in-hand at times, placed perfectly on a grid, while in the next instance Zylberberg decides to ignore this grid and have the tones collide with each other. Every now and then, the track’s transverse layering is accompanied by a very low gnarl as if the pressure on a structure has to be released—or at least signs of the pressure need to make themselves heard.

Tamara Dauenhauer put together a video for “Sheshells” and it seems the director tried to visually represent the track’s fragile feel: gemstone-like structures captured by S.Schiedlofsky are multiplied and stacked on top of each other. The images show various dark blue colors first and change to brighter shades of green as well as yellow later on. With these changes, the video invokes the feeling of looking through a kaleidoscope, while you might be standing on top of a frozen lake or inside an icy cave. Midway through the video, Dauenhauer reminds viewers that our hands could be holding this optical instrument with its reflecting surfaces. As the repetitive bass line and the higher tones on top of it slowly fade out towards the end of the track, the low gnarl now stems from the pressure you would be putting on a icy structure.
