Zurich-based artists joyo ann released the EP Ctrl me last year, an unsteady collage packed with references to contemporary pop music. Their voice always hovers above it, in “unsatisfying interactions with sound and desperately circular redefinitions of identity.” joyo ann’s latest release, the video single “KEEP:3”, picks up on all this and turns it around: neo-dadaistic lines meet enigmatic R’nB(reakbeat), with everything always cute and morphing.
Embedded in a highly creative environment in Northern Italy, producer and DJ Luigi Guadagnino just released his latest EP under his Acidgigi guise. In early November 2023, the label-arm of Italian graphic design enterprise Burro Studio published Energy Control, which not only offers a wild ride when it comes to musical influences—it nods to pretty much every genre on the hardcore continuum—but also refers to different periods of time: the past, the present, the future, and beyond.

It gives the feeling of constantly falling apart while the track gains strength in the low-end, mutating into a[…]
In October, Darío Acuña [also known under his artist moniker Darío Afb] released his second album Llanura via the label Filiae Latam. With a background in classical music, a craftiness in playing the synthesizer and a fine ear for field recordings, his eclectic music ranges from ambient-leaning and drone-informed compositions to piano solos. It seems only natural that he would occasionally switch lanes and link up with visual artists, as was the case with this year’s Zurich Art Prize winner[…]
It’s somewhat of a tradition by now: In October, we go to LUFF and have a great time. This year the Lausanne-based film and music festival presented appearances by Maria Bertel, Sote, Pollution Opera aka Nadah El Shazly and Elvin Brandhi, Dreamcrusher, Hugo Esquinca, Matriarch, No Home, and a whole bunch of artists none of us ever has heard of, which resulted in something that you truly and only get at LUFF.
We are giving away 3×2 tickets for Sevdaliza’s concert at Case à Chocs in Neufchâtel on July 1st. Good luck!
